Art of Relating Book Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read on the Journey to Love

I wish I’d had The Art of Relating when I was much younger. It could have saved me from learning so many of its lessons the hard way. Christine Kniffen has crafted a guide that feels as personal as it is practical, addressing the complex, messy reality of love and relationships with clarity and heart.

Kniffen’s tone is conversational, like a wise friend who truly gets it. I found myself nodding along and even laughing at times as she described the pitfalls of gravitating toward emotionally unavailable partners or losing oneself in a relationship. The chapter on the difference between “I” and “We” hit particularly close to home, as it mirrored challenges I’ve faced in my own relationships. I have definitely been a “vanishing self” at times, and it’s a relief to know I fought my way out of that habit.

This book is packed with practical advice and reflective exercises that make you stop and evaluate your patterns and choices. I kept thinking how invaluable this would be for every young person stepping into the world of love. If I’d had this book, I might have avoided some heartbreaks and approached relationships with a healthier, more confident mindset. I wholeheartedly recommend The Art of Relating to anyone looking to find love—or keep it thriving. It’s a must-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gave me a new perspective on relationships

Like many people, I have always found relationships difficult and complicated, but this book breaks them down in ways that feel both deeply personal and universally practical. As I read, I couldn’t help but reflect on my own relationships, both past and present, and realized how much of Kniffen’s advice resonated with me. One chapter in particular, about being overly fixated on the elusive “it” factor, felt like it was written specifically for me. It challenged me to rethink how I evaluate connection and chemistry—and what truly matters in a partnership.

Kniffen’s insights extend beyond just couples. If you’re single, you’ll find invaluable guidance on recognizing patterns in attraction and addressing insecurities before they sabotage potential connections. And if you’re in a challenging relationship, the tools for separating emotion from reality, stopping the blame game, and fostering healthier communication are game-changing. Even those in happy relationships will find tips to deepen intimacy, maintain boundaries, and grow together.

What I appreciated most was how emotionally honest yet pragmatic the writing felt. It’s like having a conversation with a wise and compassionate friend who isn’t afraid to challenge you. Kniffen makes vulnerability feel empowering and practical advice feel achievable.

Whether you’re struggling in love, thriving but looking to improve, or navigating singlehood, this book offers something for everyone. It’s not just about fixing relationships—it’s about building them with intention, self-awareness, and authenticity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Building More Meaningful Relationships

“The Art of Relating” is a great book for anyone who is currently struggling in their relationship or looking for love. This book provides practical examples to guide people through some of the most difficult and long-lasting situations and decisions you can face, such as choosing the right person and discovering secure, true love. Christine Alane Kiffen writes in a relatable, easy-to-read style that will help build stronger relationships. I particularly appreciated the opportunities for self reflection that were encouraged throughout the book. Kiffen’s ideas can help build respect, understanding and a deeper care between you and your partner. Considering our past, relationships that were modeled for us growing up, and our personalities can help build confidence and love. Whether you are looking for a more meaningful connection in your current relationship, or looking for a new, flourishing relationship, this book will help you find what you are looking for.
